Like The Supper at Emmaus, the The Incredulity of St Thomas was inspired by a post resurrection account from the Gospels. The work is inspired by John 20:20-28; the story of Thomas inspecting the wounds of Jesus' crucification. Caravaggio called upon the same style of peasants and beggars for the characters in this illustration. The simple clothes, one with a ragged seam, shows the poverty of the men.

I have chosen modern but unidentifiable clothing to make the characters current but not give any clues to their work. I also created a view of St Thomas investigating the wound in Jesus' hand.
